Afghanistan is known as the ‘graveyard of empires’ and its history is a history of war.  No one ever wins in Afghanistan least of all the civilians who live out their lives under the constant threat of violence with no end date in sight.  Little wonder so many of them head for our peaceful shores in the hope of a better future.
